If memory serves me correctly overly advanced timing can cause it to run warm and if that new carb is running lean it will also.

Is the therostat still out? That will cause the water to go through the rad too fast and not get a chance to get the heat out. Put in a 180* thermostat.

First question, what is warm? The gauge pegged or actual temp? Stock gauges are notorously incorrect as far as temp so get an actual reading if you don't have one. Don't rely on just the stock gauge reading. Might want to invest in this and check actual reading http://www.grainger.com/Grainger/wwg...N=0&sst=subset. If this does not work, go to the web site and put in 5XL18 in search

185 to 190 is not bad. Old saying - If it doesn't boil over, its not too hot.

With the original 272 the gauge in my 55 would be about 3/4 or slightly higher with a 180 thermostat.

If you are interested in finding out just what the temparture is, get a meat thermometer, run the car till it reaches normal operating temp, remove radiator cap (be careful here) and stick the thermometer in. it will tell you almost immediately what the temp is. You can also do this by shutting off the engine when it reaches normal operating temp (again be careful) and put the thermometer in. Remember, once the engine is shut off, the temp will climb by 10-15 degrees from operating temp.

Or you can get a infared unit, and just point it at the engine, rad, or whatever part you want to get the temp.
