'40 Running Board Covers
Hate to keep bringing this cover stuff up, but.....got the first one on and painted the bottom with Rustoleum, etc.
I notice this morning that in 2 or 3 areas the cover has a slight bubbles. I ran into a guy at a Car Show yesterday who said he had the same problem, but he used an Industrial Syringe to stick glue through the cover and it never showed after it dried. Before I do that....I thought I would ask if once mounted and in the sun....will the cover heat up and settle down onto the board ? Thx.....Mike |

No. Do the syringe thing. But, you might try using your wife's iron and apply some heat to the rubber, with something like a towel between the iron and rubber surface.

Re: '40 Running Board Covers
Did you try to glue the cover on all at one time? Generally you glue down 2-3 inches at a time. . You can work out the bubbles easier in the shorter stretches and let dry.

Just thinking...use the syringe to suck the air out of the bubble and see if it will lay down and adhere to the glue that should be there.

I did the 2 to 3 inches at a time, but still have 3 areas that did not adhere. I ordered a large syringe and will try one area first and roll it. I'll try you draw the air out too. I have a bigger problem than that.......at the front and rear where it attaches to the fenders......the new rubber is longer than what I took off and both areas have pushed up. Looks like hell. I don't know what I'm going to do ! Thx.....Mike |

Re: '40 Running Board Covers
Try putting a few shims between the fender and running board. Shims like washers on the bolts that hold the fender to running board....

Re: '40 Running Board Covers
I used drake covers and like you they were a little long. I tried about everything to get them to lay down--finally sliced a wedge shape piece of rubber out of the worst one and reglued with super glue along the seams to be holding good. I also had a few bubbles, turned out to be the released gas from the glue, which occurred because I did not let the glue dry all the way--got in a hurry and got caught

Re: '40 Running Board Covers
Capt....I have tried a dozen times to post here and I just never have been able to do it...sorry ! I can post photos anywhere else, but not here for some reason.
OldRed....I did put rubber washer in between as they said to do, but it's a pretty long cover ! AlanWoodie....that's exactly what I did. First I drew some air out with a meat marinating syringe....I then load it with glue and gave it a shot. I bought one of those rollers and spread the glue all around. That did a great job. I then placed and bunch of bricks along the running board to let it dry. I then took a scalpel from a friend of mine and took out a thin slice at both ends and then set in the glue. It looks pretty damn good ! I'll let it dry for a day and take off all the bricks and clean with thinner to wipe off the excess glue. You cannot see where I stuck the needle into the cover. I appreciate everyone's responses ! Thx all..... Mike |

Re: '40 Running Board Covers
Be sure you don't have TOO much weight on the rubber. You don't want to leave the impression of the bricks etc. in the rubber.
