I didn't read it all yet, but I'm heading over there right now.

My Dad, A Ford dealer in the 30s, 40s, and 50s said many of the early V/8 engines had to be replaced due to mostly casting problems. I have a old original 1932 Owners Manual (Ford labeled it a Instruction Book) that the owner has
penciled in notations "11-22-32,Had Engine changed, old Engine had 8,350 miles on it. There is a second notation "7-21-33, Ring and Pistons put in at 1490 miles" on the second engine. This original old book with owners notations would seem to back up his statement. If any of you 1932 memorabilia collectors would like this book contact me [email protected]

In some respects, the date of the announcement probably takes a back seat to the date when first production version of the engine was installed in a car, namely March 10, 1932.

As noted above, the early ones were often short lived. In fact, the first 4,249 were recalled for various changes, many of them major and Ford insisted that those 4,249 passenger cars be placed in service as demonstrators (once "fixed") and not sold as new cars.
