Are 40's Lincolns open drive shaft?
Have a cousin who is considering a continental missing engine and trans so
he asked me about possible swaps . Would he have to cut cross member to put in a later automatic? Thanks

I helped restore a 40 v12 continental and it had a torque tube.

Common transplant back in the day was a Cadillac V8.

If he's considering a modern engine with automatic, yes he will have to cut the X-member but while he's at it he should think about replacing the rearend with something newer (and with a low 3 gear) so he can make a direct and and open drive connection between trans & rear.
