Well, the Florida weather looks to be getting back close to normal... Tomorrow should be in the 80's with a chance of rain in late afternoon... So, it looks like we'll be cruising up to the Hot Rod Breakfast and back to my place to do some work (have some fun) on a few of the Flatheads...

A very BIG thanks to Steve and Cliff for giving me a hand with the '51 F-1 radiator swap. We all met at the Hot Rod Breakfast and Steve and Cliff came over to my place afterwards. We got started on the extraction, drained the radiator, pulled the upper hoses, removed the fan and generator so we could pull the radiator and shroud as a unit. After everything was out, we degreased the engine bay, etc. and it was time for PIZZA. After lunch, we installed the new radiator, etc. I'd like to say it was an easy job but that would be stretching the truth. It was in fact a real pain in the butt and between the three of us we added at least a dozen new expletives to our garage vocabulary. In the end, everything went together and there were no leaks. Now the F-1 is once again ready for some long distance runs and more Flathead Fun.

Hi Vic. Always enjoy working on these flatheads and was glad there were no leaks! Speaking of water, my vacuum wipers got a good workout on the rainy drive home but arrived safe & sound. Now it's really coming down with a lot of thunder and lightning.

Steve, glad you made it home without any problems, the sky opened up with rain and lightning here as well. I hope the weather is good tomorrow as I'd like to take the '51 out for a drive just to make sure everything is in working order. Thanks again for all your help.

Swapping out the radiator in the '51 F-1 also proved to be a messy job... I spent a good part of the afternoon cleaning the garage floor... I didn't even address the clean up of the tools, etc. yet but, I'm happy to report that everything is lookin' good under the hood of the '51 F-1, tomorrow I'll take it on the road for an extended run to make sure. thanks again to Steve & Cliff for their help.

Oh yeah, the UPS truck just pulled into the driveway with the water pumps for the '39 CS... Now I know what I'll be doing on my lunch hour tomorrow...

Well, it's a little early for lunch but, I went out to the garage and prepped and painted the water pumps for the '39 CS. It is a rainy day here so I thought about bring the pumps into the kitchen to paint them but, I reconsidered and thought it best to keep them in the garage...
Here they are naked out of the box...

And here they are dressed with one coat of Bill Hirsh Ford Green paint on them.

Maybe tomorrow I'll install them.

The temperature has been on a downward trend here for the last few days, by no means is it as cold as some places up north however, everything being relative, it's cold... too cold to play in the garage at lunch time so... once things start warming up, I'll get the water pumps installed. I was planning on driving the '39 CS up to the Hot Rod Breakfast on Saturday along with Warren in his '39 CS... We'll see.

It's supposed to be 66 tomorrow, (Fri), you mean a New Yorker can't take that?

Maybe after that, we can come back here and fly over to Zephyhills for the Pigz n Z'hills bar b que and blues fest and car show at the airport.

Hi Warren, that sounds like fun... I'm a transplanted New Yorker, been here in the Sunshine state for 22 years... I never liked the cold when I lived in NY anyway... If I get a chance tomorrow, I'll install the water pumps on the '39 CS if not, I'll drive the '51 F-1 up to the Hot Rod Breakfast Saturday.

We actually had ice on the roof of the house this morning... but the sun quickly liquefied it... This is defiantly "Field Jacket" weather... Call me chicken but it's too cold for me to play in the garage... Looks like I'll be driving the '51 F-1 up to the Hot Rod Breakfast tomorrow... Now I'm thinking that omitting the hot water heater, when we redid the truck, might not have been the best idea...

Vic i can not believe you do not have a heat pump with a electric furnace for the garage .The furnace would probably never be used except for the blower, but if it got down in the 20's you would still have heat, and in summer you would have the heat pump to cool the garage. It get cold in Ohio and that is what i have except the funace is fuel oil.

Marv, fortunately, I can count the number of days the it gets below 40 degrees here on one hand with a few digits left... The garage stays cool in the hottest weather, we just open all the garage doors and use a portable fan to circulate the air. Cold weather is another story but, because those "cold" days are so few, it doesn't pay to try and heat the garage...

I can sympathize with everyone up north as I'm having withdrawal symptoms not being able to work in the garage... I haven't gotten into any Flathead related grease in a couple of weeks... Everything being relative, 40 degrees is COLD here in Tampa and the garage floor is even colder... and tomorrow, another "cold front" is headed our way... Maybe it's time to rethink heating the garage...

Vic, We are having one of the colder winters here in Mi. This morning the wind chill is -5, hi of 10 today. on the bright side my Ford 8n is having "winter fun" plowing all the snow, It needed an extra sack of oats last week when we got about 2 feet of snow. Enjoy your 40 degrees! Paul
