Default Dang, them V8 iron heads are heavy!

Especially when one drops end on to your flip-flop clad foot. Result.... broken big toe and an amazing bruise....
I just received my Weiand finned heads, and was in the process of removing heads and installing longer studs when the darned iron head slipped out of my grasp. I quickly made sure my almost bare foot was in the way so the iron head didn't damage my concrete shed floor.....
My wife, being full of sympathy, now calls me Hoppalong Cassidy.

Man, sorry to hear that. I hope you recover quickly. You certainly learned first hand how heavy those things really are.

Funny story. My buddy from TX was selling a bunch at Hershey this year. They didn't sell and he didn't want to load up his truck with extra dead weight for the return trip.

He put two sets in the back of my car (Honda Fit) without me knowing. During my trip home, the car keep bottoming out over bumps and I couldn't figure out what was going on. It wasn't until I got home that I realized what was causing the problem.

I had an 8BA flywheel slip off a cart & land on my toe once. It wasn't purty. The flywheel still had the starter ring too. If I hadn't had my boots on, I would have lost a toe.

No, the flathead was wearing the thong - he was JUST in his sandals!

Not a pretty picture! Haha...
In this part of the world they're called jandals or thongs, I called them flip flops so y'all would know what I was talking about.

Dang man that hurts just to think about. Time to set back and put your feet up on a chest full of your favorite beverage.

Interesting bit of history......
These Weiands were purchased by a guy in US in the 50s for his race boat. He had them for decades, then sold them to a kiwi here who amongst other things has a perfect clone of the Art Chrisman single seat car. This guy had them on a car that went to Bonneville, so I'm the third owner. They've had a bit of filling and shaping in the combustion chamber, paricularly in the transition from valve area to piston area. They are in great condition, no corrosion whatsoever.

Yes, that had to hurt! Just thinking about it almost does.

Last fall I bought 2 garage-wall art EAB heads at a swap meet & had to carry 'em over 1/2 mile back to my pickup. That was enough pain for me to endure. And I was wearing steel toes.

OUCH!!! Hurts to think about that. Hope you get to feeling better soon.

Its ironic how things can "bite" you. Last March, I was changing a light bulb in the shop. It was raining and I didn't want to go all the way to the house (probably 30 steps) to get a proper ladder. So, I stood on a wooden box to reach the light fixture. Got the old bulb out and in the process of installing the new bulb, the box went out from under me. I fell into a pile of misc. iron and broke my left foot in the process. I knew better than to use a box for a ladder but didn't, for whatever the reason. Won't do that again. Bet you won't wear flip-flops in the shop either.

Get well soon!

Well, Bassman, being from Napier, you wouldn't wear flip flops around sheep like my daughter did. It took her almost 8 months before the infection could be cured. Almost lost a toe in the deal. I learned not to even wear tennis shoes in the garage. A bit of hot slag from my welding landed on my tennis shoe and burned it's way through to my skin. OW OW OW That's the last time I'm doing that. Leather boots in the garage.

Moral of the story: Don't wear flip flops while working on your car (or riding a motorcycle, cutting the grass, welding or cutting steel or cutting wood or any other semi dangerous house hold chore). Wear sturdy shoes while working in the shop.

I worked in an automotive machine shop for a bunch of years... Even with boots on, a cylinder head will do a lot of damage. I got in the habit of lifting one foot off the ground an holding it over the other one if something slipped...

Safety First. Back in the 80s i worked for an American offshore drilling company, and we had the oldest drillship in the world for a refit in the oldest shipyard in the world in Malta. Shipyard workers all wore flip-flops and shorts, and carried canaries in cages when they had to descend into tanks. There was bare wiring of all voltages and forgotten welding cables burning puddles of steel on the decks, and they swung loads of deckplate overhead held only by handfuls of soft line. Fires were a weekly routine, but I never saw or heard of anyone getting wiped out. Even the drive to work and back was a road race with inches to spare. ..B.

Definitely a kiwi thing...we're known as sheep shaggers. Heck, even the local hot rod club call themselves 'Ram rodders'! Make what you like of that....incidently, I am definitely NOT a member!

No cliffs here. But the roof of a mobile home works, corners are best.
