Default fenton header clearence

I have a 1936 ford pickup 52 v8 flattie. I just put a 39 steer box in it with a Drakes steer box mount. The box is not gonna fit thinking about maching 100 thou off the header flange. I also could lift the front of the engine, how much can the engine be lifted without causing driveline problems Thanks Chris

It is a little bit of both. I have not done it, but if you can move the steering box in as much as possible, that can buy you some more clearance. Might have to drill a couple of extra holes to put in bolts that lock the mount in place.

It will be easier to use Reds Headers and not the Fentons. I have not been able to get the Fentons to fit on anything pre 1946 models.

I took about 1/8" off the Fenton flanges to clear the box on my '40 Coupe. Setup on the Bridgeport was challenging, but in the end, I used a V-Block with a couple of shims to get it level. It was - honestly - not bad at all when I realized the V-Block held the flanges very close to level in my setup. I used a slow feed rate since I couldn't hold it super tight. I think I did it in four passes of about 0.030'' each using a fly cutter.

Recently in a 40 car/8BA I ground a serious notch in the Fenton to clear the box and welded the hole closed.
