Default '40 PU welt betwen running boards & fenders

Was there authentically welt or anti-squeak material between the running board and fenders on a '40 pickup?

My guess is no but want to hear from experts.

Thanks.

I know there was welt there in the 35-36 pickups. Not sure other years.

Ford did use a lot of anti squeak materials in all sorts of places. The part numbers of such strips can sometimes be found in obscure sections of body parts catalogs and such but I don't know about the commercial pickups. With there utilitarian nature and lots of part flexing & movement with different loads the stuff may deteriorate and cause loosening of mating assemblies.

Rotor,
A great idea indeed. I did in fact scour my books and found nothing that suggested there was anything between the board and fenders. While I realize not all parts were offered as service replacements, there were clear listings for material between the board and frame rail. I would think that if Ford offered that (by the foot) and if there was material between the board and fenders, that too would have been listed.
I feel a bit distressed at the thought of placing a painted board against painted fenders. However, if that is the way Ford did it in 1940, that's the way I'll do it now.

The 40 Tonner had an oil impregnated? fabric at both the front and back fenders where they connected to the running board. I chose to use the welting material that I used on the fenders.

Thanks much. I did in fact install a thin piece of anti-squeak material between the board and fenders.
