Default 1940 generator

What holds a 40 generator pully in place? Is it like the 46-48 type that has a steel 'clip' that goes into a groove on the armature? Perhaps I have the wrong armature, but my 40 pulley doesnt 'uncover' the groove in the armature enough,to allow a clip to go in place . The 40 pulley is a bit thicker than the 46-48 type. Thanks for any replies.

The correct armature does in fact have a slot that accepts the clip as you have suggested. Often times the armatures were replaced with an incorrect 'service' part.

Many times the large step washers for the felt seals (to the rear of the pulley) are installed improperly and will not allow the pulley to screw down far enough on the armature to expose the snap ring groove. There is a double rubber sealed bearing that will replace the open bearing and allow the felt seals to be removed, but the washers have to be installed.

39-41 Generator Front Bearing B-10094 same as transmission pilot B-7609 see below
