Default Merc-O-Matic transmission

After letting the 53' Mercury set for about 2 weeks, when I start it up it blows trans fluid up and over the top of filler tube. By the time I get to the end of the driveway it stops. Checked the fluid with the engine running and warm after a drive and it is between the hash marks...not over filed. This does not happen with regular driveing. Cause?????????????? I know the obvious answer is to drive it more!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

my guess is the torque converter is draining back into the trans, so when you start the engine the trans is over full and any fluid going back to the trans is over filling it even more, after the engine runs for a little bit the trans pump sucks the oil out of the trans and refills the torque converter, i have a chevy that leaks fluid out of the top of the dipstick if i let it set for more than a week, if i start the engine every 4 or 5 days it doesnt leak a drop,, next time it sets for a while pull the dip stick and see how far up the tube the oil is before you start the engine

ford1:

Thank you......just wondering if there is a cause (weak spring etc.) that can be corrected as to the draining back from the converter?

It is a seal or oring in the transmission that is brittle or torn once all is hot the seals and orings soften and you do not have and problem this is also called an internal leak Chris
