Question Change coupe to roadster?

Years ago I think I saw a "universal top kit" that could possibly be adapted to give my 1929 Coupe a fold-down soft top. Is something like that available?

Not to say years ago there could have been some sort of cobbled up kit to do that but I have been in this hobby since the early 60's and don't recall ever seeing such a kit. What you may be thinking of is a regular top kit for a sport coupe (which does not fold down) or a kit for a cabriolet. If you chop a coupe to try to make a roadster you will end up with a mess that nobody that knows anything about Model A's will want. Specifically, the value will drop out of sight. If you want a roadster, sell your coupe and buy a roadster. Or next best thing remove the coupe body and sell it and buy a repo roadster body.

Just thinking of a temporary thing until I can afford all the wood to rebuild my cab. In another question, I once saw a supplier that sold a metal coupe roof insert. My coupe had a home-made metal roof before I tore it all down and started over. My "Bessie" was in parts all over the property for ten years until I finally had the front crossmember welded up and a found all the parts to reassemble about three years ago. So far, I have put on 300 miles on her and have not left the town limits.

Friend has a '30 'roadster'. Well, sort of. Back in the 60's sometime his father took a sawzall to the top. Its been a 'roadster' ever since. He did a pretty nice job of it.

I've seen all sorts of coupsters over the years. Some cut them way down to the beltline and some just cut the B-pillar and window frame off. They usually never look quite right. A good customizer could build it like a Cabriolet but it would take a lot of work to make it look good.

Wood kits expensive. Brackets are unique. I had all the original stuff with mine, lined the wood with flat bar to tighten it up.A Carson top is a reasonably cheap and easy top.

Nice Sport Coupe. They all can’t be show quality. Some should be just for fun. Yours looks like it’s a lot of fun.

Enjoy.
