Randy gross steering column
I recently acquired a 1928 roadster and over the holidays, I installed one of Randy Gross's steering columns and today the weather was good enough to take the car for ride. I am impressed how easy the car steers. He is a good man to deal with and willing to help you if you have questions. I found him through the ford barn. Thanks ford barn and Randy Gross.

Re: Randy gross steering column
How does he do it. You send him your column? I presume it must be a two tooth box.

Re: Randy gross steering column
We use F100 steering boxes. They are completely stripped down and rebuilt and modified to fit a Model A. We don't need any of your parts if the vehicle is a 1930-31. 1928-29 will require an exchange after the box we sell is installed. We have been building modifed steering boxes for strictly Model A's for over 25 years now. If you would like additional information, then please either email us at [email protected] or call us at 714-292-8660. We would be glad to answer each and every question you may have. We take very good care of our customers and don't advertise outside of Ford Barn and word of mouth. Thanks Randy Gross (Mel Gross' son)

Re: Randy gross steering column
I think I have one of Mel's first 150 steering box conversions being he did it for my dad back in '95. Works great to this day.

Re: Randy gross steering column
There was one of those on one of the cars I bought a while ago. First thing I did was take it off and dump it. No one would buy it - they are for the wrong side of the car!! They are not available for RHD and from the comments, that is a pity.

Re: Randy gross steering column
You should be able to turn a LHD F1 box upside down for RHD.
Let me know if it works. |

Re: Randy gross steering column
Wouldn't you have to mount the driver's seat on the under side of the chassis to do that and sit up side down? I'll leave that to you.

Nope, no need to hold your mouth different. The F1 box has the column going underneath the box. When you tip it over the column goes on top the same as the F100. I gather these boxes were used in other applications upright or up side down. Just need to drill a hole to put the oil in. Let us all know how it goes ... |
