Default '28 Grille shells- Where originals nickel or chrome plated?

As the title states, were the original grilled shells nickel or chrome plated? If nickel, who sells the most accurate reproduction piece? Don't think I'm going to find an original as I had hoped.

Originals were Nickel. Bert's might have a good original, or at least good enough to replate.

jm29henry, your avatar is somewhat difficult to see because it, as most, is too small. However, I'd like to see that photo in black & white or sepia. Photoshopping the white walls black might make it seem like an era specific photo. Anyway, I do like the photo.

Tim Ayers, don't give up. There are original nickel plated shells out there. Believe there was one (may be a '29) at the Big 3 swap meet in San Diego a couple weeks ago. Bert's or Arizona Model A are the two best places to look. You might want to check Rufus Ranch in Brainerd, Minnesota. They have great stuff at reasonable prices, too.
