1931 Town Sedan A-160B
I purchased the above car. I just discovered that there are no Body Blocks in this car. I am able to purchase Body Block and Bolt kits from suppliers. My question is where do I find the shape of each Body Block required and the location it is to be mounted into? I also need to know how to mount each Body Block into its location. Where do the rubber pads go in relation to the blocks? Also, how do I raise the body to install the Body Blocks? I am at this point in going thru the car and would like to start soon.

Re: 1931 Town Sedan A-160B
welcome to the Barn, Taylor
I have the same 160B. I also have purchased the blocks and bolts, and will be doing the same project, But I should have all the old blocks in place and just do a R and R one at a time, the trick comes with the shims and rubber washer spacer, I have been told to loosen all the bolts.raise one side at a time just enough to replace the blocks and install new bolts. leave thing loose, adj the shims till all the doors fit, snug down each bolt. keeping the doors in line and closing. starting at the cowl working back. there will be somebody on the Barn with the rest of the story, and will give you more exact details, It is a great group. good luck.

Re: 1931 Town Sedan A-160B
Are you sure there are body blocks used in he town sedan? The '31 slant window may have but I believe the rest just had a wood sub frame with thick rubber pads. This was how my '30 Fordor was set up.

Re: 1931 Town Sedan A-160B
Taylor, are you sure the blocks are missing? they are tucked up in the sub rail. Hard to believe someone would bolt the body right to the frame. The Les Andrews book has pictures of where to place the blocks The 160 cars have the extra body mount bracket around the rear wheel. The rubber spacer goes up against the body, then the wood block rests on the welting on top of the frame.

I remembered (It took a while!) that I had this picture showing the placement of the body blocks.
I hope that this helps. |

Re: 1931 Town Sedan A-160B
FYI, The early JS and the bolt kits you buy from parts places may have the #4 (I think) bolt length wrong. So if you run into a short bolt that does not seem right, well there is a reason.
The JS was corrected in the last revision. |

I just received a copy from the Restorer Jan/Feb 1998. The article was written by Les Andrews. It has all of the blocks dimensioned and shows the rubber pads mounted against the webbing on the frame.

Which of Les Andrews books show the Body Blocks for the 160B cars? The vol. 1, Body Block section, does not show the 160 cars.

Sorry Taylor, I thought Les Andrews listed it. I just dug out the book, and it is not shone. But John B posted a pdf and that is what you need.
