1. Yes they are different. Assuming you are talking passenger car. Both clamp to the top of the ornament and, of course, ornaments are different. Pickup would use the same 1934-1936 (on the radiator cap).

2. I suppose you could use the word "original" for the aftermarket ones as Ford never made or authorized a 1935 or 1936 greyhound (1934 passenger was the only true Ford).

3. How to tell... trial and error, or find a known one and compare.

I believe the Greyhound ornament was an accessory on all Deluxe 36 Fords in Canada. If I am correct or someone else correct me if I am wrong.

But it was the equivalent of the aftermarket offerings as its tail is not freestanding like the '34 Ford and all Lincoln greyhounds.

David, Can you make a comparison between the Ford and Lincoln greyhounds please? From memory, I think the Lincoln greyhounds were slightly larger, and have more prominent ribcages. Am I correct?

Note the differences in the tails...

'34 Ford Greyhound

'32 Lincoln Greyhound

Alan,

You're correct, the Lincoln greyhounds were larger in keeping with the scale of the vehicles and had more detailing than even the '34 Ford cap made by Stant. Gorham, the silversmiths, was the manufacturer, and they were made of bronze. The Lincoln greyhound caps were standard equipment, not an option like the '34 Ford cap. In some of the classic Lincolns an optional (no extra cost) so-called "driving cap" without a greyhound on it was offered.

I heard Clara Ford made Henry drop them after 1934 when she found out they were "anatomically correct".
