Default Second thoughts: American Stamping Corporation frame rails

I'm looking at options for building a 1934 pickup frame and wondering if anyone here has used American Stamping Corporation's rails and can offer an opinion on them. Alternative suggestions are welcome, too.

Thanks,

gary

Thank you, Bob. Did you use their crossmembers? I'm wondering if they have all the holes correctly punched. I can come up with originals but they'll be somewhat pitted.

I have a 32 3 window on a pair of American Stamping frame rails. They were real accurate for my hot rod.

Thanks, Vic. Guess I need to get a shipping quote from them. Hopefully it's not a dealbreaker.

Holes are not punched.Just checked with my friend who bought a pair a couple yrs ago and no holes are punched. They might not be ASC.

10 years or so ago I bought 6 pairs of ASC rails. Buying 6 allowed us to save on shipping.
Several friends were involved and we wound up building 5 frames all with 32 center xmembers and SoCal front xmembers with 32 or 34 rear xmembers. One pair went to the Rolling Bones guys. All were built on an excellent quality frame jig.
The rails are slightly thicker than the originals, not much but I think it's a good thing.
They were easy to work with and came with all the holes punched in the top flange for the body bolts and firewall bolts. The holes for the bumper brackets were there as well.
I highly recommend them.

Have used 100's of pairs since they became available. When I decided a few years ago to quit boxing them myself I started using boxed ASC rails from Hot Shoe Hot Rods. When ASC finally added the rear c notch it was a time saver. We used mostly Deuce Factory/So-Cal front cross members. Bent and fabricated our own center X and fabed our own rear cross member except when the chassis called for a Model A rear. Roadster Supply sells the front cross member, ask for the Deuce Factory style. They also have a really nice model A rear cross.

My 34 pickup used ASC rails. But I turned it into a hot rod. The rails did not come with crossmembers or holes punched. If you are restoring one you need to try and salvage your original crossmembers. Their frame rails are of high quality and the only problem I had was when I had a hot rod shop box them for me and they managed to put a rear crossmember in that was 1 1/2 inches too narrow. So I had to relocate a lot of holes and modify my spreader bar in the rear.

Thank you, all. I do have access to an original frame that's not really useable but I should be able to salvage the crossmembers. It's a start.

After thinking about the titling headache this might turn out to be here in California I'm having serious second thoughts about the whole enterprise.
