Default Emergency Brake pops off

I hope these pictures are good enough. The emergency brake pops off at the slightest pressure. The wet is from me cleaning 50 years of grease and sand off. The teeth on the stationary section look real good. Is the tooth on the handle rounded off? Bad spring?

The emergency handle may have rust and dirt inside this will prevent the thumb button on the top from rising properly and the tooth of the paw on the bottom from seating into the teeth properly. If this has been together for 50 years I suggest removing the entire handle and cleaning it and lubing it to get it to work properly. I do not see an apparent problem in your photos. It is possible the spring under the thumb button has broken if so removing and cleaning will reveal this. A new spring is sold by Brattons.
