Default It's a wonderful life - Car

The car that was famously crashed by Jimmy Stewart in the Christmas classic 'It's a Wonderful Life' is to be featured in a New Year's Day parade.
The black 1919 Dodge Brothers Touring Car will be driven 5.5 miles through the streets of Pasadena in California during the Rose Parade on January 1.
It's owner, Keith Smith, of Johnstown, Colorado, who helped restore the car more than 20 years ago before buying the vehicle in 2010, will be at the wheel.

Just thought this was interesting...

I had the privilege to work on and drive a '16 Dodge which is very similar to the one Keith mentioned. Those are fabulous cars that were much better quality than what Ford was selling at the time, but the weirdest thing for me was the shift patter was backwards from what we consider normal for the typical H shift pattern.

Yes Brent,

Dodge built all of the early chassis for Ford. around 1912-1913 they offered Ford improved chassis for the same money they were already charging, with electric lights, finer engine tolerances etc. Henry said hell no, and the rest is history!
Dodge is a much finer car then a T.

YUP, I agree! Now its restored and just another DB. The part that made it famous, the dent in the front, is now gone. The parts and paint that Stewart touched, are now gone.

People ask if I'm going to restore my pickup. I tell them this story:

"I heard they're going to restore the Declaration Of Independence", I say. "Oh yeah?" they say sounding very interested. I then say, "Yeah, they're going to bleach the paper to get it white again, then they will reapply the writing again, just the same way is was before...you wont be able to tell the difference, except it will look fresh and new". They look at me perplexed and reply, "they would never do that, would they??"

Ironically, many people don't understand the analogy, even after I try to explain it to them, or maybe even after reading it here. My pickup is defiantly NOT the D.O.I., in fact, no car is. But the mentality of selectively obliterating some forms of history, while not others, is a mysterious and grey line to me.

Often Quoted "you can restore it a million times, BUT, it is only original once"

I probably would just drive it as it was as well. ( tongue in cheek)
