Default 1931 trunk lower inside panel ?

I know this subject has been covered before, but I need a picture of the inner trunk panel in relationship to the rain gutter. Does the trunk rain gutter go in the slot in the lower inside panel ? because when I try to line it up, it looks like that is the only way it will fit.
Here's a picture of what I'm dealing with. Both inner and outer panels are aftermarket, so I'm sure they don't fit as originals.

I used the aftermarket panel also. I had do some work to get it to fit and get the trunk to lock . I believe it fits the way your photo shows. tomorrow I will take a picture of my panel and post it for you.

Just a thought, the original inner trunk panel are easily found. No one wants them cause everyone has converted to a rumble. Save yourself some grief and find an original. If I had one laying around I would give it to you.

The lower rear panel is another story. Real PIA. I made the repro panel I used work with the original inner structure. This involved redoing the lip to make it wide enough to accept the original parts. I did not change the top edge to droop by the 1/8" at each end. I set the panel a bit lower to hopefully give the extra clearance to the corners of the lid. You will find the cars with the repro panels have chips in the paint in the upper corners of the lower rear panel. This is where the lid hits the panel.

You can tell the repro lower panel by the lack of a hole for the spare carrier. Since most put side mounts on they do not bother putting the hole in the lower rear panel. A side mount car would have had a plug put in the hole.

It appears to me you have the incorrect inner panel. It looks like the shorter version used for '28-29 Coupe models. The correct one would be at least an inch taller.

Thanks for all the info! Good website with plenty of detailed pictures. I should start by telling you that my rear subrails/floor are not stock. I put a solid floor in the rear portion, so how do I get to the bolts that hold the rear outer panel on since it sits on top of the outer panel? Does the inner portion(once I get it to slide up the driprail) go up the drip rail far enough for me to tighten the bolts, then I slide it back down and into place?
Seems like it might work that way, I may try it today.
Also since the water just dumps into the rear floor, should I make a trough for the water, or just put a couple holes in the floor to let it drain out?

Marco,

The panel is not all the way up, as it will not fit around the driprail. I wanted to find out if it was right before I started cutting.

sorry it took so long for me to post the pictures. hope they help. it is a repo trunk inner panel on a 1931 coupe. I had do some triming to make it fit and the panel came with a trunk latch welded on but it was junk so I trimed it off and bought a repo bolt on latch

Model A Man,

I thought the same thing about my latch, looks pretty flimsy to me. I think I'll get the bolt on one too. Did you put an extra big washer (cut on one side) where the inner panel bolts to the side, or is that the way it came? Oh, by the way I trimmed my panel yesterday, and trimmed it, and had to rebend the side tabs, and then it fit.

So, how do you now scratch the paint of the the trunk lid when it gets "centered"? And, anybody have a part #?

In the Snyders parts catalogs the part # is A-41506-TR and sell for $5.25 for the pair and Snyders calls them Trunk Alignment Plates.

This is what Mac's lists for that part number and says they go at the upper corners to align the rumble lid. I am confused (familiar territory)

Crap, the image won't post, but you can find it here:

Okay, so what about the "paint being scratched" issue?

this is just a guess but I think that they center the trunk lid and keep the sides from hitting each other due to body flex when you are driving. I believe if they were not there the the edge of the trunk lid would hit the edges of the quarter panels

Well, I like the idea, but I am not crazy about messing up the rather expensive painting I am having done. Since my A is not-entirely-stock at this point I am thinking about buying a set, then re-creating it in nylon or plastic that would guide the lid but not mar the paint. Thanks for the photos.
