New shocks
The old shocks are a long story,, so I won't go into it.. But,, I replaced the old ones some years ago with those 'oil-less ones' [ I've thought they were junk, well, they are].. Bought a set of Bill Stipes and just got around to putting them on,, they are nice !! Just thought I'd let you know..

Re: New shocks
Yes they are. Too bad they are going out of production.

Re: New shocks
Yes, I know, thats unfortunate.. The shocks are pricey, but, I guess they are worth it, all things considered..
Those oil-less pieces of crap I bought about 8-10 years ago for $750.. What a waste of money.. There is Apple Hydraulics in downstate New York that does a really nice job rebuilding originals, by the time they cut the rotor and push in a stainless sleeve the cost really adds up.. So Bills shocks price isn't too bad considering that.. |

Re: New shocks
I have rebuilt originals on the front of the roadster and on the rear tube types that came from Snyders, that combination gives a good ride. Tried the tube types on the front and they were too stiff.

Spike, I bought a set of Bill Stipe's shocks this winter for my town sedan. Apparently they sold the CNC machine used for making the shocks. However they have a fairly good inventory remaining. Whether or not they go back into production depends on market demand. Another good source is Robert Paul in Yoder CO. I didn't have any rebuildable cores for my "31" ccpu and he supplied cores and rebuild them for a very reasonable price including shipping. I just installed them this week and so far they perform great. Just don't be in a hurry. |
