Berg Radiators
A friend called last night to tell me that Berg Radiator has closed down. Does that leave Brassworks as only alternative for quality new radiator?

Re: Berg Radiators
I spoke with Gery about a week ago asking if he was coming to Chickasha. He said that he wasn't because he sells everything faster than he can make them and he would not have anything to sell. He did not indicate to me that he was closing down.

Re: Berg Radiators
Walker Radiator was purchased by Johnson Radiator and supposedly will be back up and running this year. More info from the HAMB

Re: Berg Radiators
this is what I was alluding to in another recent thread, regarding suppliers.
does anyone really think there is that much work, making model A radiators? also Im sure it is labor intensive. |

Re: Berg Radiators
I had 4 radiators restored over the years with authentic cores from Gery - he did a great job. The last time I spoke with him, maybe 1 year ago, he said he was close to retiring. It looks like he is retiring.

Re: Berg Radiators
I called and asked Berg about buying a 28-29 radiator. He told me he has none in stock and does not plan on making anymore. He was finishing up the ones that were his backorders.

Re: Berg Radiators
Well that seems to be the normal course these days!
It’s going to get worse on getting stuff for these restorations! I won’t belabor but it’s scary the things that have gone by the wayside |

Re: Berg Radiators
not to belabor the point, but when you cant find help and the going rate for minimum wage is 20. an hour
what would one expect? easier to take a menial job, be free after hours and enjoy ones time. running a business is no picnic. Many small businesses barely make it as is. |

Re: Berg Radiators
So as not to get gery’s (spelling correct) phone ringing off the wall I did speak to him as we’re friends and he has ceased production. He’s taking care of his remaining orders that were already in the works. I’ve known Gery for years and he’s one awesome guy. Yes things will get tougher in our world of supply of parts and services. My local radiator guys is retiring in a few months as well. Great cars, wonderful people and friendships we cultivate, but unfortunately life doesn’t stand still and life and circumstances change.

Re: Berg Radiators
also, as many have hoarded TP in the past 2 yrs, some of us here, might want to consider ordering 5-10 of the same part- if we think we will need it in the future.
this way the garage is well stocked and we can continue having fun building what we do. not so easy with a high priced item, but not bad on smalls......... |

I hope youre right Pierce.........I hope youre right.
yes I am repeating myself- because I dont see model a sales, "growing". I wouldnt expect the businesses of the two fellas you mention, to be all that profitable. more a labor of love. |

Re: Berg Radiators
I certainly hope that someone buys out the remaining Bert's business and continues to make the best radiators on the planet.
I would think that it would be a good investment for someone that is already involved in that business. |

Re: Berg Radiators
The problem with “buy outs” is it ain’t ever the same. An example is Ahooga that bought a quality business with great products. Down the proverbial bowl in a fast spiral. Took a lot of good folks with them.
But we can hope. |
