T-5 trans in a towed vehicle ?

Thanks for the info, it seems to be safe I should remove the drive shaft.To refine my question, in netural when being towed, will the slider gears on the main shaft sling enough oil to lube the bearing between the input and output shafts? Has anybody towed a vehicle that had a T-5 trans with or with out harm?

I knew someone would ask this, it came up the last time this subject was mentioned.

The throw out bearing is not rotating. It is pressing on the pressure plate fingers, which are attached to the engine, which is not turning.

Generally speaking, those gears aren't "sitting" in oil.

I have only towed twice. Once I removed the driveshaft and the second time, I overfilled the trans as described above. Removing the driveshaft is the preferred method.

Should you remove the d-shaft, have another yoke on hand to slide into the tranny and wire it on (in the unlikely event it might slip out). This way you aren't dumping fluid ....

Sound advice...if you have another yoke with you.

However, when vehicles need to be towed, they are often some distance away from tools and spare parts (hence the need to be towed). I've found that removing the cups and needles from the driveshaft, or taping them onto the driveshaft, and then wiring or tying the driveshaft up is often the most practical solution when you find yourself in the middle of nowhere...
