Default Time travel link. They are still around!!?

I was doing a search for parts and google came up with a link to the past. I found no real model A parts (they used to have many), but I thought they were long gone!

JC Whitney is still around, but they sure don't have the good parts and bargains they had in the 60's and 70's. They had some cheap junk, but they also had some good quality parts at bargain prices.

I would constantly get emails from J.C. Whitney. I tried several times to buy parts from them. Went thru the complete order process only to get a message a day later informing me the parts were out of stock! I finally blocked their email address.

"Back in the day" (yes I am old enough to have a "back in the day" , If we saw a car with a lot of unnecessary "bling" we would call it a rolling J. C. Whitney catalog. It was not meant as a compliment.

When we first got our car that was the only place that I knew to buy parts. Then later I was told about Snyder's. Since I'm only a 1 1/2 hour away from them I was amazed when I went to their store.

J.C Whitney has gone through a number of owners since the founding family sold the company in 2002. T

They have built a huge distribution center with a store in La Salle, IL right off interstate 80. The customer service is now run out of the Philippines, with supposedly no call centers left in the U.S.

The truth seems to be that J.C. Whitney is not anywhere close to what it used to be....

I bought a heavy rubber floor mat from them back in the '60's. I loved it.

I bought carpet from them for my 55 Chevy, and it was perfect and equal to or better than factory carpet. Wolf whistles were only $3.98 for the deluxe one. I miss the good old days of the 60's and early 70's.

Hey, you guys. What about the fifties? Every model A I bought from ’57 to ’60 needed new wire loombs. In today’s terms, wiring harnesses. I ordered my first wiring harness from J.C. Whitney in 1957. I think it cost around fifteen bucks which was a lot of money back then. Every one of those harnesses was premium quality and came with excellent directions.

J.C. Whitney will always be in my high esteem, along with Sears, Roebuck and Monkey Wards, Hyster, and Freightliner.

Don’t judge any company by what they have become, just accept it. Don’t deal with them unless you have to. They were all like we were at one time. Full of piss and vinegar and ready to take on the world.

Have a good one,

Mike
