GLASS tint questions......
I have a 53 Merc.
Does anyone out there have the GREEN tinted glass on their car? I need to buy a new piece for my rear door, but am not sure if I currently have the clear or the green tint. After all of these years even clear doesn't look clear. Is there a way to tell? Is the green obvious or just subtle? I found this on my back window but not sure what it means : "PPG Herculite AS2 4 83". Thanks for any info and/or photos. |

Re: GLASS tint questions......
not to be smart but the tint will be obvious the glass itself has the tint not added after.

Re: GLASS tint questions......
My car is a '55, but has aftermarket slightly tinted green glass. Just looking at the car, the tint isn't obvious. If you partially lower the door glass and compare it to the non-glassed area, the difference is obvious. In the picture below, the tint is more obvious because you are looking through glass on both doors. Notice the rear window glass isn't tinted. Tint is rated in a percentage number. If your state has a tint law, inspection stations will have an instrument that measures that percentage. Maybe you can buy some glass to match your tint.

Re: GLASS tint questions......
Thanks for the replies gang. I also had the following replies:
1) Use a white piece of paper behind the glass to see if there is a slight tint. 2) Most of the green tint glass if it is still OEM will have the Sun-X etching in the corner. After speaking with Metro Parts and looking at some photos, its obvious that my glass is the clear and does not have the green tint. I ordered a piece of their clear. Thanks again. |

Re: GLASS tint questions......
Google it and you'll get the whole story on PPG Herculite AS2, I worked with them 1952-1964 to get my college paid for.
