Default Speedometers with gear ranges?

Picked up a speedometer for the ‘39 COE, didn’t need it but looked unique and seemed a good fit for the vehicle. I havn’t seen many Ford speedometers with shift points and wondered what the back story was? What vehicle they came in?

Doubt my flathead even with the overdrive will break 60.

The ones I have seen installed as factory equipment have been in the larger trucks as in 1 ton and up.
