Default Fuel pump

Just had my motor re-built, its a 36 LB block. I put dual '97's on it with a offy intake.

Question is will a stock fuel pump work on this configuration?

Second question which fuel pump push rod would I have to use with the aluminum intake 8.87" or 7.87"

I would like to not have to use a electric fuel pump. I've had issues with reliability with them in the past.

Measure your cam to the top of your manifold gasket face ,then pump cup to the flange gasket face ,This will get you in the ball park .Use something round to measure with ,like a round section of fuel line with tape around it .fine tune it with gaskets after its installed .

On early engines there are only 2 lengths of pushrod and two manifold heights. You can tell which is which just by looking...if you have your original manifold from '36, if iron it will be high, if aluminum low so you can compare.
Very, very roughly, the manifolds using the shorter rod are about an inch high at the very back from engine block surface up to the flat oval where pump stand goes. Those needing the longer ones are about 2 inches. Those heights are pure guesstimates, but close enough to tell what's what.
From there, all you need is any '35-48 stand/breather and any of the several pumps.

To answer your question directly, the aluminum intake takes the 7.87 pushrod #48-9400B.

I took off the incorrect 41 cast iron intake on my 36 in favor of the correct aluminum intake and found out by accident!

Oh, very important, make sure you put the gasket on the intake FIRST. The lip on the pushrod fits in the groove in the bottom of the fuel pump stand.

Lesson well learned Dean.LOL ken ct.That tip may only apply to stock manifolds and the lip is on the baffel tube [not the rod] ... Not sure if aftermarket manifolds may not use a baffel. If the round hole at the back is the same diameter as the one on a stock manifold it would take the baffel. Diamond shaped holes such as 34 an early 35 would not take a baffel. ken ct.
