Default Computor problem??

This morning I downloaded an update from SPYWARE DOCTOR and now I can't send or reply to any emails. I tried to send an email to a Fordbarn member about his 2 aluminum fans, but when I click on "SEND" nothing happens. I also tried to reply to another email from a Fordbarn member, but the same thing happened when I clicked on "SEND".

Any idea what happened or how to fix it? Thanks

Curious why you are running spyware doctor? Sounds like spyware it self

Personally I run MS Security essentials on most of my machines. If I were you I'd uninstall the spyware thing and see if that fixes the issue.

Tom, your on a pc right? Did you turn off the spyware software and test send?

Sounds like it's blocking a port that your email uses. Spyware should not be able to do that. Do you also have a virus program like norton? Have you changed you firewall setting recently?

I would try using System Restore to restore to a point before that update. I would then uninstall Spyware Doctor. I would also suggest a full system virus scan. Not sure what virus protection you are using. I use Norton and like it.

Tom,
Model A's are my therapy and technology is how I make a living. First thing I would do is to download and install Microsoft's Security Essentials Anti Virus and Anti Malware software. It is free to use and automatically updates itself. It is the best AV software on the market in my opinion. After it is installed it will automatically scan your system for any problems. Let it fix whatever it finds. Next uninstall any other antivirus or spyware applications. Reboot the computer and you should be good to go.

Click this link for the Security Essentials Software.

Wish I could help, but, can't.. I got fed up having to constantly run these type of programs, re-booting,etc.. .. I bought a Mac, its worth the expense.. I'm sure this isn't what you wanted to hear though..

Patrick I hate to tell you that macs get a virus also. Granted far less problems. But it is growing as their popularity gains.

I'm a machead. That's why I asked Tom if it was a pc, pc's are not my forte and I can't help much.

A good anti-virus program for the mac is Intego. I catch quite a few things with it. Allows you to control ports and outside connectivity. Nothing is 100% I hate to say.

You know it's a brilliant ad campaign by Apple to tout that Mac's are less likely to have problems with spyware and viruses. They are. only because 8.5 out of 10 computers are Windows based and threats are created to attack the greatest number of machines. Just in the last year the amount of malware and viruses has increased 20 fold. The new MAC operating system is UNIX based and it is just as vulnerable to attacks. It won't be long until the Mac OS is targeted just as the Windows based operating system is. Microsoft's move to make Security Essentials free to the public was there way of paying back Windows users by giving them a free Anti-Virus and Anti-Spyware tool that is as good or better than any on the market.

My computer has been acting stupid, since I picked up a Trojan virus. I uploaded what you recommended and it has been acting normally, so far !
If it stays that way, I really do appreciate you putting this on here. So far, so good !
Thank you, so much !

Get rid of the Spyware doc and either use AVG Free or Microsoft security essentials as your anti-virus and also download Malwarebytes and run that as well. Spy doc is not the greatest program to be using. I work on computers all day and we always tell our customers not to download SpyDoc. Hope this helps

In that case use System Restore to reset your computer system to a date before the update was installed. If it is a halfway decent program it would have created a restore point.

Thanks to all for your help. I went to programs and removed spy doctor and now I can again send emails. Also, a big plus is my computor is now running much faster.

Tomorrow I'll look into installing the MS security essentials. Thanks again

Had to replace my computer with a new one. I had been using Norton, trying Kaspersky (recommended to us, says better than Norton, we'll see).

I guess I'll have to take a shotgun to this computer. A threat entered the other day which we can't get rid of. We have Norton 360 but it still got through and now it's painfully slow (I could write a letter faster) I could fix it if it was a Model A. Guess it's off to get a new computer.
