Default Air Compressor

Need to buy a small air compressor that runs off 12v DC to air up tires. Have to deflate my Model A tires a bit to get the car into my enclosed trailer. I cannot modify the back of the trailer since the door rollup is there. Length of power cord and air hose also important.

Anybody have any suggestions on make or type. Need fast fill, quiet and runs off my regular 12v truck battery. Might also use it for other tires but this is secondary.

All suggestions appreciated.

There's a new portable compressor thats advertised on TV. Can't think of the name.
It is portable and runs off its own battery pack. Looks like a battery pack that is used in most cordless tools. Might be a consideration. Good luck. Jeff

It's called the Air Hawk. They make some pretty big claims about how fast they can pump up tires. Most of these small compressors take a long time to pump up a tire to 35 lbs.

Maybe someone on the Barn has used it and can report on how effective it is.

ive used the $25 metal bodied harbor freight compressor for many years for bicycles and a few times roadside and its a tad slow with car tires but works great. Nice brass screw on stem connector not those plastic flip top leaky junk.

I don't think 12V DC,fast, and quiet belong in the same sentence.Everything is a trade off,and there are really plenty of good little compressors that will do what you need. But,they are not fast. The quiet ones are the slowest. The Air Hawk is not as fast as they lead you to believe. It's great on bicycles and in air suspension bags, but they don't hold much volume.

I purchased and have used this unit several times this past year. I am well pleased with the quality.

I've purchased a lot of 12 volt compressors for about $5 each from swap meets, second hand stores, and garage sales. They all work fine, but as mentioned, they aren't real quiet or very fast.

The ones I like best have the larger motor and direct drive, but most of them have the smaller motor and noisy gear reduction.

I went on a Jeep forum and here is what they had... It includes 10 gallon portable air tank in junction with a pump, plus the use of CO2.

I carry a 12 volt battery jumper pack that also has a small air compressor built into it and a 12 volt power outlet (to charge cell phone, power any accessory that you would plug into your car's outlet). I don't carry this thing in my Model A but I carry it in my truck. It takes the power for the air compressor from the built-in battery.

I have only jumped a car once with it but I use the compressor a lot, and the power outlet. (My trailer has an electric jack on the front and lights inside that will all run off of the battery pack when the trailer is not connected to the truck. Very handy.)
