lugs
Is there any good reason to pay $100.00 for a set of stainless lug nuts rather than $25.00 for zinc plated? This is not a show car. Would you use lug nut spacers just to protect the paint on new p.c. wheels? Thanks.

Re: lugs
I bought a set of stainless steel nuts a year or two ago, and they were made wrong. The 13/16" socket would not go on the nut. I called the supplier and was told to use a worn out wrench. I returned the stainless nuts and bought zinc plated nuts, and they fit correctly.
Some folks remove the powder coating from the countersink area of the wheel where the nuts meet the wheel. |

Re: lugs
You should clean all powder coat or paint from the taper area in the wheel. You can not get a good torque that will hold on the nut otherwise.
I would NOT use stainless nuts. Eventually the threads will gall and then you have real problems. The plated ones work fine. If you are saftey minded you can get 1 inch hex nuts from RotoFaze. They are designed to NOT pull through if it gets run loose. They are required in vintage racing. http://www.roto-faze.com/catalog/ind.../wheellugs.jpg |
