Does anyone know where to buy a 1936 (1928-1948) rear axle shim that is thicker than the ones I have, 0.004 inch?

Are you talking about the gasket shims? If so, Best Gasket has them .003, .005, .007 and .009 thick in a set.

It's important to know which rear axle shim you are referring to. I can think of at least three locations, and I'm sure there are more, where the early Ford banjo rear can be shimmed.

The shim I need goes around the tip of the axle, inside the brake drum. It is used to prevent the brake drum from contacting the backing plate.

Sorry to be "that guy" but would I be right in thinking there should be no need for a shim? There must be something out of whack. The hub depends on a very tight fit between the shaft and hub. Inserting an intermediate piece (or two!) between hub and shaft will destroy the tight fit and can lead to cracked axle shafts.
If my drums were contacting the backplates I would be looking at the hubs, drums, shafts and backplates.

Those shims are available from C&G (800)266-0479. Order B-4243, catalog says $1 each. They are used to correct the fit between the end of the axle, or a worn hub.

I had that problem with new rear hubs. Do you have them?

The shims I installed are from C&G, PN. A 4235, catalog issue. 50, page62. They measure 0.004 in. thick. Maybe the PN B 4243 is thicker. I will call them. My axles and drums are very old. I have only driven this car about 600 miles. About 75 miles after new linings, turned and arched drums. Thanks to all for the tips.

Just saw, C&G catalog PN B4243 is a rear axle key.
