29 Tudor steering column question
The steering column on the 29 Tudor that I am restoring has a 1/2" gap between the steering wheel and the upper bushing. Someone told me that I had the wrong shaft in the column. They said that the shorter shaft is 1 inch shorter.
I'm wondering, if the gap is 1/2", won't a 1 inch shorter shaft be a problem (is that too short--seems like I need a 1/2" shorter shaft OR I need to adjust the column so it comes up about 1/2") ???? Also---how far down is the column supposed to slide over the steering box??? Is the gap at the steering box that is shown in my pix okay???? See pictures please |

Re: 29 Tudor steering column question
Fred93: that looks like a 30/31 column with a 28/29 steering wheel.
Somebody has modified this in the past. Hope the barn guys can help sort out this dilema. Jeff

Re: 29 Tudor steering column question
It appears to be the '29 two tooth column. I measured this gap on an original one in Hershey last week and the gap was about 1/2" inch as yours is. If the steering assembly had been assembled with the later shaft which measures 44 inches overall versus the correct length of 43 inches, the gap would be about an inch more or 1-1/2".
Perhaps someone on the board has one to measure to confirm this distance. |

The horn rod measurement is pictured below if that helps any. Sorry it is upside down--this site drives me crazy sometimes. |
