broken key in ign

My 40 coupe has a broken key in the ing switch, the key is at 12 o clock, if i could rotate it to 9 o clock i think i could pick the key out but can't rotate the tumbler. Next step is drill the plug , will it come out when in the half way position ? the tumbler is lose i can wiggle it but not turn it.

Just as an aside, I saw a video of several ways of getting a broken key out of a lock.....NOT sure if it was youtube or Facebook but one was using a hot melt glue stick and a lighter, it didn't work of the first try but I think on the second...IF not third BUT it did work......IF this helps at any point of maneuvering your tumbler to the point of picking the key.

I have seen someone use a coping saw blade with the teeth ground off of the blade on one side. Insert the side that still has teeth, facing the key. Pulled the key right out.

the problem is that i cannot turn it to the left to pull the key out, can't go right it will lock the wheel and if i can't get it back i'm in real trouble.

Drill and tap the plug then pull it out with a slide hammer . Then the lock cylinder will come out.

If the cylinder will not rotate the key is not in position for the pins to be aligned. Often pushed in to far. The coping saw technique can be used to pull the key into position and then rotate the cylinder with a small screwdriver. Pulling the key with a saw blade can be tricky. A locksmith will have a small wire size tool with a spiral edge to accomplish removing the broken key.
A lock spray lubricant can be helpful if it is an old dry lock cylinder..

Got the plug out, tumbler out, rotate the tumbler and key half fell out. Now to have new key cut. thanks for the help

I have a set of torch cleaners. Several different size steel wires. They work great for sneaking into small places.

Ask your local locksmith about it, I was pretty surprised that our local guy in Monterey was able to help me at my house on my 34 a few years ago, did an awesome job and has all the right tools and knowledge, unless of course this is a DYI thing
