Key cut code for 1936 pickup spare tire lock
I have the lock cylinder removed and the key code is FW146. I under stand that with the code it should be possible to have a new key made. Is anyone aware of a locksmith that does these? Does anyone have access to the key cutting information that a local smith would need to make the key? I see key blanks for sale so that wouldn’t be a problem.
Any help would be appreciated. |

If 32Phil isn't back from Florida yet, I can help you out. $6.00 on a correct-period generic key.

Re: Key cut code for 1936 pickup spare tire lock
I had keys cut for my spare tire lock cover by 32Phil using the code and both work perfectly. When I told someone I work with, he asked why didn't I use a local locksmith and all I could think "What a waste of time that would be". Go to people that are on this site and you won't be sorry! Nice that there are additional sources here.

I talked to Phil and plan to get back with him once he is back home. I have had the truck since 1976 so I guess I can wait a bit longer.
You guys are great. Thanks, Milo |

Re: Key cut code for 1936 pickup spare tire lock
I had a 38 key made from a old local key safe guy. Did it in front of me. I handed him the tumbler and a blank key and after a few book turns and a printout he made it. Hard guys to find as days go by. Much respect to Phil for suggesting John.

Re: Key cut code for 1936 pickup spare tire lock
JM 35 Sedan is correct in that just cutting a key doesn't always "cut it "
sorry I couldn't resist that one. I try to avoid having folks remove/drill out cylinders just to make a key. If they can get the door lock out, I'll use that code if they're pretty sure it's original to the car Usually, I'll cut the key and send it off and if it works OK, we're done. If not, the cylinder has to go to the hospital and get rebuilt. Most ignition cylinders have some wear. Door locks, trunks and glove boxes not so much. If the lock is coming in it's also a good time to make sure the door lock works with the ignition key or match them if they are different.
