Solid Spindle Connecting Rods (Tie Rods)
Has anybody ever run into SOLID Spindle Connecting Rods or Tie Rods which may have been used during the Model A Ford production period?
And if so...Just how did you determine it was SOLID and not a tube? Thanks. Pluck |

Re: Solid Spindle Connecting Rods (Tie Rods)
My 29 ccpu had a solid tie rod.
Of course it may have been changed out at some point....but we've owned it since 1962. It is worn part way through....picture attached... Would a factory installed part be marked in any way?

Re: Solid Spindle Connecting Rods (Tie Rods)
I was wrong.
It is not solid. I could find no letters or numbers on it. I'm lucky I changed it for a new solid repo replacement. The old rod/tube is .701" in diameter, but the worn area is only .542". I was able to easily drive a punch through what little tube remained in that worn area. You can also see that the end is capped.
