Default Front Axle Spring Stud - Sway Bar

Hey guys. Want to replace my front axle spring studs for the sway bar mount. Could some please explain to me the "movement" of the stud in the perch bolt? Does the stud actually move/rotate or is does it stay "fixed" in the hole? Thanks

The stud is a press fit and as such does not move within the perch. When the swivel moves, it torques the pin which causes a resistance. That resistance is what makes your front chassis want to return to its normal ride height.
Guys that install new pins that are size for size, undersize, or even only .001" or .002" oversize with the perch are not restoring the proper action designed in to the front chassis.
There was a good reason the Ford pins were made .004" - .005" oversize.

Good to know thanks. I have heard people say that macs has an installation tool. However, I only see a front spring shackle and leaf spring bushing removal tool. Looks like both sides are flat. I would assume Hitting the tool against the stud would "mushroom" the end of the stud??? Anyone use macs tool? Is there another tool I am missing? Any explanation?

I've never seen a reproduction tool offered to install the pins. They need to be pressed in. The KRW tool applies pressure simultaneously to the body of the pin and the threads. Any "hitting" as you suggest would indeed mushroom the outer sheath.

Do you have a picture of the KRW tool you use? Part number?

I have recorded the sale of five of these on eBay within the past 24 months. They ranged in price from $331 - $424. None included the two bushings.

The tool number is BV-121.

Kube, are you saying that you use the spring shackle bolt tool to also install the sway bar stud?
I believe the tool for the stud is TZ-188, the truck shackle bolt tool which is considerably bigger.

I have found that for me, .001-.002 oversize is about as much as I can make work in the fixed eye end... The spring end is a bit more forgiving... So, I size the new bushing in my drill press with emery cloth for that fit. I find a washer or two that will go over the stud, held in place by the nut, to contact the outer sleeve of the bushing, then I can use a ruined 9/16" impact socket as a driver to install...

I do use this tool.
There are different bushings for the different size shackle pins. The 40 pickup, when equipped with the optional sway bar utilized the same pins as the passenger car.

This thread was addressing the sway bar stud when first started and this is what I was refering to.
Here are some pictures of the TZ-188 and also the complete KRW kit for spring shackles on the cars and trucks.

Beautiful kits guys. Unfortunately I would like to stay away from spending 300 to 400 plus dollars on a kit that I will use for 2 studs - and only one project. I wish I could but Karl seems to have a "good" solution for me now. I have not taken apart the front axle perch bolt so that will be the next "how to" on my list. As always appreciate the advice.
