Default 1936 Ford Doors

Someone told me that the front doors on a 1936 four door will fit a 5 window coupe. Can an expert out there let me know if this is correct or not ? thanks Tom

from looking at dimensions in '35-'36 book, doors look pretty good dimensionally, except the 5-window doors are 3/4" longer.....so might fit with some work.....good luck....Mike

I do not consider myself to be the expert you may be looking for on this, but I have always 'heard' that '35/'36 fordor sedan front doors will work on the same year 5w coupes with a little work (material removal?) on the upper corner area. I could take a look at my two avatar cars and see if I can tell what work may be required.

Tom-

As far as I know the only modification that is needed is a trimming in the upper corner (note picture). I have never done it and I am not sure where I got the picture so, I can't give you additional details.

Hope this helps.

Tom

I used the 36 Fordor doors on my 36 5W Coupe with modifications to the top corner to fit. I also had to weld a piece on the back side of the edge of the top of the door to look the same as the coupe door.

i have used 36 4 door doors on a 5w coupe .all that has to be done is reshape the radius on the top from the center to the corner. i used masking tape to get the radius i needed then ground the door with a grinder allow a little extra because you will have to weld the fold over seam. then file it. it was not hard to do

Just something to know when lookin at doors if it matters to you.

I picked up a used LB interior for my 35 from a 36
The inside door handles are in different locations between the two years.

I also used the fordor doors It can be done without a lot of headache. The back corners were the only difference. Good luck

I posted the picture in the thread Tom started about 2 months ago on the same subject. The answer is still the same as then.

Correct. The 35 door handle is near the front of the door and 36 is closer to the middle.

In '35 there were two different door handle positions, early vs. mid/late year production.

I am not sure what year my doors are but they had hole positions for both the forward and the middle window reg, so you could use either

My Fordor doors were from a 36 and they had both handle locations in the door itself as shown in photo.

A pair of 36 coupe doors just popped up on ebay, not mine. In California so freight could be a killer. Maybe Greyhound depending on where you live. UPDATE YOUR PROFILE
