I feel sorry for all the frail people that can't tolerate when the temperature drops.

It's 81* here, 50% humidity, nice breeze and not a cloud in the sky - neener, neener!

Re: Hard freeze coming
When it gets cold here, our TV weatherman issues falling iguana warnings. Yes, that's a real thing. The cold usually doesn't kill them but as they're cold-blooded, it paralyzes them. They rest in trees and they can't hold on if they get too cold. Getting hit in the head with a 20-pound frozen iguana would smart! |

Well, to be honest it's going to get really frigid the next couple days...all the way down to 50!! We'll have the grill fired up for ya. No need for hamburger, we got plenty gator meat. But bring lotsa beer and firewater. |

Re: Hard freeze coming
I remember draining the water out of the cooling systems on my grandfather's equipment when it was going to freeze. John Deere tractors mostly, but other equipment he had, most likely, as well. Stuff he wouldn't use in the winter. He never had much money, so antifreeze was not something he used in all his equipment. A false economy, most likely.

"I feel sorry for all the frail people that can't tolerate when the temperature drops."
I've been skiing at the top of Copper Mountain in -12 temps with 20mph winds so a bit of a cold snap here in Ohio doesn't bother me one bit. Still doesn't make me want to move to Florida with all the old snowbirds driving around creating traffic issues and filling the restaurants. Besides around here it's supposed to be close to 60 degrees in a few days...

I'm an old ex-snowbird - dunno about the restaurants but the driving is a myth. Us geezers can't drive slow because we'll get run over by all the young whippersnappers hot-rodding at least 20 mph over the limit. Oh, and our cars have self-canceling turn signals. |

Re: Hard freeze coming
Thursday morning it was 24.Yesterday,Friday,it was 52 in the morning.Today it was 10 at 6:AM.I've been plowing snow, one way or another since 1976.Town roads, state highways, and driveways. There is no way I could live in a hot place.I am giving up the plowing though,I am only going to plow six driveways now.For over 45 years I've headed out in the face of nor'easters and blizzards.I have never thought anything about it,it was just something I had to do.In the last couple of years I've started dragging my feet about it.Still beats living in a hot climate though to me.

Re: Hard freeze coming
ModelA29, I would move but unfortunately my wife won’t On the plus side I just bought an old-but-new-to-me enclosed box trailer. The plan is to take the RPU (or my ‘48 Willys Jeep) behind our also old little Motor Home. Can we boondock in your driveway?

Today it is 72 degrees here in Tucson, Arizona, with the wind chill factor.

In 1985 we had -20 -25 here in Nc mountains with no wind and we were dairy farming at the time so I know what cold is. It’s been cold for a few days now and I’m sure it’s caused lots of disruption for people and hardship but it’s winter and reasonable to assume we will get it according to the past. In 1993 we had snow drifts 15’ deep, or course the terrain upwind would be empty of snow. It snowed every Wednesday for a month in the 60’s (big snows for here) and none of it melted and made life hard on people, I’ve seen photos of it but didn’t participate. I’m going to assume it’s been much worse here before. I’m definitely starting to dislike the cold!! |
