Default How to test gauges

What is the step by step procedure for testing the fuel, temp, and oil pressure gauges when you have them out of a dash cluster (51 Ford) to see if they work? I removed the entire intact cluster but before that they were not working (I'm not looking for the "they are fried" answer!). I just converted to 12 v. and I will reinstall the cluster with voltage reducers, but I first need to know how to test them on the bench to see if they work properly at 6v. Any help appreciated as always. Thanks Barners!

its fairly simple, attach a 6v. lead to the hot side of the gauge and a GRD.
to the cluster housing, a wire from the gauge to the sending unit, on the gas,
just slightly move the float, the needle sould move, on the temp, put the
sender in hot water or use a lighter, on the oil, use air on the sending unit,
but only about 10 to 15 pounds
