I'm for the JB Weld attempt also. My big problem with that it getting to the other side of the hole. The freeze out plug might provide some access as it really needs to be clean for the stuff to work and getting to the inside (or upper portion) of the hole seems critical to mushrooming the patch on both sides.

Except for working upside down I would soft solder a copper sheet patch over the hole. By using an aggressive flux and good solder cast iron can be soldered. Its the working upside down makes it difficult. Phil
