dual V-belt crank pulley for 8ba
hey guys, I'm in the process of building a blower setup for my 8ba motor. it's running an eaton style blower. I need a little help with the drive though. I would rather not do a serpentine belt... original wide truck crank pulley is one belt. I would like to have a pulley that also has a belt between that stock location and the timing cover so that the entire system is no longer than a stock flathead. dual belt drive for the supercharger would be best.
trying to use a ford part instead of a custom pulley, could you use an early dual belt pulley off a late 30's 221?? if i remember correctly these have the belts running closer to the block. I would want the front sheave to line up with the waterpumps and the rear sheave to run up to the blower only. both belts would drive the supercharger. |

The sheaves between early/late donīt line up...you canīt mix early pulley with late waterpumps.
And the early belt position will also hit the distributor on an 8ba. |

I am planning to run a late waterpump so the belt running out that far will clear the distributor. I guess I have to find a dual belt early crank pulley to see if the front belt can be made to align with the late waterpumps so that I end up with a rear belt in between that I can run directly up to the supercharger. another question, on the late truck style pulleys that have two sheaves, are they the same diameter? it almost looks like the front one might be slightly smaller than the rear?? it may be possible for me to take one of these pulleys and trim the back to fit one belt width tighter to the block and put a spacer in front. |

but you may have trouble driving the blower with just one vee belt. Lawrie |

The 8RT pulleys are different diameter between outer/inner shieve.
Can work if you make the pulley on the blower with same difference between shieves. There are industrial solid dualshieve pulleys for 49-53 around. |

Look at the crank pulley, on the French flat head, its what your looking for, and will work on the 8BA. |

that's not what I wanted to hear lol. I know I could get a custom upper pulley made. trying to limit the amount of custom machine work. If I had a lathe in my house still this would be a moot point. Quote:
looks like the french flathead has different diameters as well. seems as though I'm going to phone a friend who runs the machine shop at a local university. I will buy a small upper pulley off amazon and have him bore that for a press fit and make an aluminum lower pulley to spec. this will give me stock water pump pulleys and the ability to change ratio by getting off the shelf upper pulley with minimal modifications. |

Re: dual V-belt crank pulley for 8ba
I'll refer you to Joe Abbin's book "Blown Flathead".
Things to consider. -Determine both pulley diameters (overdrive) by the desired boost and motor displacement. The Formula is in Joe's book. -Minimum of two belts driving the blower. - Enough wrap is need around the blower pulley or it will slip. Water pumps don't need much wrap to work properly. - You need a way to adjust the belts. - alignment is critical for belt life. |

yes to all of these. I have joe's book and have spoken with him. just trying to find the way to match all of these criteria that requires the least custom machine work, especially since I plan to start with a fairly stock motor then build a big motor with big cam. |

Sounds like you're on the right track. There was one stock 8ba flathead crank pulley, see picture but the diameters are different. You would need to have the belts run different not parallel. One to go around crank, blower then one water pump. The other belt in the same order just the other pump.

Re: dual V-belt crank pulley for 8ba
Here's another idea. This would be a custom crank pulley, not the one above.
