Re: Some interesting reading on brake fluid
I don't know about trusting this article. Here is a direct quote from it : "The general rule of thumb is to use DOT 3 in pre-OBDII American vehicles, DOT 4 in older European cars, DOT 5 in modern cars". Since ABS brake systems do not use DOT 5 fluid and most modern cars have ABS, this basic statement is untrue.

Re: Some interesting reading on brake fluid
As noted by tubman, that article contains some incorrect information regarding the different fluid types.

Re: Some interesting reading on brake fluid
Various newer high performance cars recommend dot 5.1 brake fluid.
It is important never to mistake DOT 5.1 (glycol-based) with DOT 5 which is silicone-based and should never be mixed with any other DOT fluid. .

Re: Some interesting reading on brake fluid
It truly amazes me when car mags have technical articles that contain incorrect information.
Either no one at the publication gives a crap to proof them or the people writing them aren't car people. |

Another thing that bugs me is, this ‘36 Ford has the flat head engine, this VW beetle has the air cooled engine. Wow! Or, this model T has the foot pedals to shift it with. |
