Windshield rattle/ vibration
Hello all,
My recently rehabbed 30 pickup has a vibration when windshield is open that is driving me nuts, if I put outward pressure on top center of windshield it pretty much stops. Although this method stops the rattle it takes some of the fun,not to mention safety factor, out of what should be a pleasant drive. Thoughts? |

Well........You might get lucky. With the windshield open all the way check the screws to see if you can snug em up into the header. If they are loose and won't snug up you can try a broken tooth pick in the hole and re-tighten.

Bob is correct. I have a 30 ccpu and have the same rattle. Did not know about the tooth pick trick but will try that today,
I also have cut a pool noodle and use it as a shim to keep window open and take stress/rattle off the open window. PG |

Re: Windshield rattle/ vibration
Love the noodle idea. My windshield is having issues as well but I'm just not into a header replacement. The car is a very nice driver and I would be opening Pandora's box. In addition to the toothpick another idea is to inject cyanoacrylite (CNA) up into the screw holes. This solidifies the wood fibers. Then insert the toothpick. Some guys drill to a little bit larger size and glue in a wooden dowel re-drill and install the screw.

Re: Windshield rattle/ vibration
Mine is a new header so screws are tight, I’m thinking of removing and greasing the hinge reinstall and go for a ride.

Just a few noodle idea's. Get one that matches your wheels or body color. Once you cut the length you want you can slit it up the whole side to the center . Then you can slip it over the Shifter and it stores easy there. PG |

Did you check the pads on what looks like a thick washer under the windshield nuts that hold the windshield open. Mine rattled until I fixed it.

Re: Windshield rattle/ vibration
That rattle is the hinge rod that the top curl of the windshield frame swings on. It's worn and it is metal-to-metal there. Tightening the header screws isn't the answer. Do this; open the windshield about half way and secure it. Stand outside on the passenger side and grasp the side of the frame and wiggle it as you look closely at the top and you will see and hear the rattle you have. About the only painless way to fix it is to try and insert a piece of shim stock up and around the hinge and pray it doesn't fall out.
