Default Water pump packing nut

My water pump may not be the leakless kind since it leaks. I backed the packing nut all the way off and stuck in a new packing from Bert's. How tight should I tighten it up? This is the first time I have done this.

Until it stops leaking. Then check it often. Also back the nut off and fill it with waterproof grease.

Never tighten it w/o the engine running.
