Default 1932 firewall / Jocar body issue

I bought a brand new steel body from Jocar in Sweden.

It look nice but my original firewall don’t fit even without the seal.
The firewall come from an European deuce.

The opening in the body is to tight or my firewall is to wide.

Do you have any knowledge of different firewall size ?

Harold,

There were four changes made to the firewall during the course of the '32 model year, but none of them affected the width or height of the firewall. The problem is likely the size of the cowl opening on the reproduction body.

At the widest part of the opening, so at the junction of the cowl side and the cowl top, from side to side, I have 35’’ 1/2.

This is the same measure of the firewall without the outside band.

For an aftermarket body with fit problems the manufacture is where I always start. Does Jocar make a firewall?

You’re right. But as they are closed in the week-end, I needed to find out.

Yes, they sell repo firewall. Not sure they make it themself.

All my firewalls and cowls are assembled so I can't help with confirmation of your measurement, sorry.

On a nice original firewall, at the widest part of the rear/inner side edge (where the seal abuts) I get 36-1/8".

Added a picture found online to show where I measured.

Thanks Randy.
Mine is about 36 1/16 so I’m sure now my firewall is ok.

The opening in the repo body is to tight.

Stock 32 firewalls going into stock 32 bodies are also a very tight fit and can sometimes be a struggle to install. Maybe you should ask over on the HAMB. There quite a few European Rodders that are on the HAMB and maybe there will be someone with experience with a Jocar body?

When I switched out my sedan body for a Brookville roadster I left the firewall attached to the stock frame. We raised the body up in the rear and lowered it down on to the firewall at an angle. Then lowered the rear down as we pulled it forward. Like inserting your foot in your shoe. What does your body measure across at the widest spot at the cowl, edge in relation to the firewall?

I finally put it in !
I had to shorten the front of the subframe on both side.

Also, it seems obvious but I thought I was able to do it alone.
It’s easier with two person 🙄

Hi,

I don't understand how shortening the subframe changed the width of the cowl. Can you explain this please?

You also need a gasket seal between the cowl and body and the reproductions are all too thick.

The subframe was interfering with the feet of the firewall.
It wasn’t possible for it to go further in the body.
