replaceable brass seat in carb
Hello,
Just installed a carb with a repalceable brass seat for the choke seat. I may need to adjust it as the choke rod is fully closed at 9 o'clock. I am guessing that the seat is just not down all of the way. How does one seat this piece-I have not delved into it yet. Mike

It shouldn't matter where the knob winds up when the rod is closed. Off the top of my head I can't tell you where mine winds up.

Which way the knob flag faces? I'll have to look in the owner's manual at Henry's picture. ...and people say I'm anal about lining up screw and fastener heads. Darn, now I have something else to obsess about.

Re: replaceable brass seat in carb
Here's a description of the brass GAV seat:
http://model-a.org/gav_seat.html I just cleaned up my Zenith Carb, and also had questions about the brass seat. Carefully remove it by unscrewing it from the housing. The brass seat requires a gasket that often gets stuck in the housing. Shine a light down there to check. If it's still there, carefully remove it. Be careful not to gouge the housing while removing the gasket. Sometimes there's more than one gasket if the last guy didn't clean it out. Perhaps this is the source of your problem. Once all the gasket material is out, check to make sure the seat is not cracked or scratched. In cleaning the carb, chase the threads with the appropriate taps. Tom Endy has a description of these here: http://modelabasics.com/Carb/ZenithC...l2011-2007.pdf Check the brass seat to make sure it is not damaged, replace the gasket, and you should be ready to rumble. As others have mentioned above, it doesn't really matter where the "knob flag" winds up. |
