Drivers Side Front Door Latch
Hello All,
I have a late model 1935 Ford Fordor Slantback, inside door handle is located mid door. Key lock is located in the passenger front door. My issue is this, when I lock the drivers front door by pushing the inside door handle forward and close the drivers door from the outside the door unlocks. Is this normal? The rear doors do not do this, I can lock the either rear door, then close them from the outside and they remain locked. Both front doors will unlock after locking when closed from the outside. Not a problem on the passenger side front door as that is the location of the key lock. I have removed the drivers door mechanism from the car. While on the bench with no outside handle attached, I lock the mechanism and depress the latching lug, it slide the actuating arm that is attached to the inside door handle back to an unlocked position. Any information, ideas, comments, suggestions, is greatly appreciated. Respectfully Marc |

Re: Drivers Side Front Door Latch
The same is true with my 36 Fordor sedan. This was a safety feature that made the driver get out on the curbside instead of opening the door into oncoming traffic, if you wanted to lock your car. The back doors of mine are also locking the way yours do. Terry

Re: Drivers Side Front Door Latch
This was a safety feature that made the driver get out on the curb side of the car rather than get out into oncoming traffic on the driver side. When out on the passenger side, you must then use your key to lock it. Back doors will stay locked. Go figure. My car is a 36 fordor sedan. Terry

Re: Drivers Side Front Door Latch
You have to lift that handle up to lock WHEN the door is shut. That is how its designed. Not like a modern car.
