Default 36 amp gauge wiring

i have a 36 amp gauge going into a 12v car and am trying to understand the wiring. It looks like a single wire is fed through a loop the back of the gauge, correct? I am guessing it somehow detects current.

If so great, but is there a certain wire?

Yes it feeds through the loop, this should be the wire from your voltage regulator back to the battery, a 10 gauge yellow wire.

feed the wire one way and the gauge will reed discharging, turn the wire around and it will reed charging. amps is amps and the voltage dose not matter
