Nylon speedo drive gear
In just 170 miles the Nylon drive gear striped out after installing a rebuilt speedo meter. Damage could have started before installing the speedometer. Any thoughts on what may have caused this before I install a new gear?

Re: Nylon speedo drive gear
Insufficient clearance between the gears when the nylon gear was installed would cause this.

Re: Nylon speedo drive gear
How would you check the clearance? It had a single gasket.

Re: Nylon speedo drive gear
With the gear housing installed, try twisting the "output shaft" lightly back and forth, you're looking for just a little play between the gears. If there is no slack between the gears, it's too tight. Adding one or more gaskets will increase the clearance between the gears. You want just a little, not too much.
