37 Coupe ignition key question.
I have no idea what happened but I’ve lost the keys to my 37 Ford.
Is it possible to have a key made for my ignition lock cylinder mounted on the steering column?? Or does anyone have a spare cylinder with a key? Last edited by OhioRick; 05-11-2023 at 07:31 PM. |

Re: 37 Coupe ignition key question.
See if you can remove the lock cylinder from the right door to get the key code for the ignition lock. There should be a slotted set screw that is visible through a hole on the end of the door. Be sure to soak it well with penetrating oil before attempting to loosen it. The slot of the screw can be damaged easily.
If you are able to get the code, there are a couple of users on here that can make you a replacement, 32phil or flatheadcoupe. Also, you could remove the ignition cylinder and send it to either of the gentlemen mentioned and they would be able to make a replacement for it. Last edited by Zeke3; 05-11-2023 at 08:05 PM. Re: 37 Coupe ignition key question.
Yeah! I learned the hard way years ago. Now, first thing I do with a new car is get duplicate key(s) made. Then carry the duplicates. Original keys gets tagged and stored in a key box where I know I can find if/when key is lost, or when car is sold.

Re: 37 Coupe ignition key question.
This will only work if the door lock cylinder hasn't been replaced at some point at the past, which is not uncommon.

Re: 37 Coupe ignition key question.
Hi All
Thanks for the kind recommendations. petehoovie contacted me today so we're all set. FYI I had some minor eye surgery Tuesday so I'm on the bench for another day or two. Anything I had in the shop went out Monday afternoon, so I'm caught up for now. Stay well
