Default Another silly "what's it worth" question

I know value is hard to fix on these old cars, but here is one I am interested in looking at. 33 Highboy Zipper without engine and transmission. 9" Ford rear-end. Updated brakes and custom grill. I would like to put a flathead V8 in something like this. Ideas on what I should pay for it? Thanks.

Add up the parts: frame, grill, running gear, radiator, steel body shell, dash, wheels and tires etc. Then reduce by half. That would be a fair price.

Looks like a "pretty ruff" fiberglass car.

Really not much there, a rolling chassis and a fair at best body. Unless you are in love with the set up I would figure what a frame would cost and go from there. On something like this you could start with a bare frame and build what you want. Might also check what a fiberglass body is worth. This is just me, but I don't like the look of the current body on that car.

For what its worth the "Zipper" was marketed as a 1932. Originally made in the LA area then Darrell moved the business to Grand Junction Co. He sold his molds to someone here in Oregon, I do not know their status.

So if is an original "Zipper" you cannot buy this body new today... If you love the style buy it. If you like the style try to get it cheap. If you hate the style RUN...

The body, frame and other fabrication work was done at Brinkley Manufacturing in Oregon. I don't like some of their design, but others are more pleasing (to me). It is a steel reinforced glass body, which I'm not so interested in, but has some fabrication work done that might be nice features. Here are a couple of this style, one 32 and one 33. I know this guys got way more in it than I would spend, and still a lot to do to get it done. This style appeals to my hot-rod side.

It would seem that if you aren't 110% excited about a project, it probably is a risk to bite it off. Not much there to buy, unless the frame has a LOT more than shown, it is barely worth $2K. Body is a tough sell, most folks would pass on such a unique style. I think it would be better to start fresh and build different car to your personality

The second car you posted (the 33) is a cool looking body to me and is nothing like the body on the one you are looking at purchasing!

The yellow car is a true Zipper. The black car has nothing to do with a Zipper but is either a steel or glass 33 roadster. I would look for a better investment, there's a long way to go on what you are looking for. Try this thread on the HAMB.

I wouldn't buy it unless you have a use for the chassis and eng. I guess you could turn the body upside down and make a boat out of it.
